WARBLING VIREO (Vireo gilvus) – (See images below)
DESCRIPTION: The Warbling Vireo is mainly grey for its upper parts. Under parts are creamy with buff sides. Eyes are brown, with a white eyebrow. Bill and legs are grey. Sexes are similar. Bird length is about 10 cm (4 inches).

NAME: ‘Vireo’ refers to the green color. ‘Warbling’ was given to this species because of its attractive songs. Latin name ‘gilvus’ means ‘yellowish’.
HABITAT: Mixed and deciduous forests.
DIET: Insects foraged in trees, also berries and seeds.
NESTING: Nest is a cup-like structure hanging from a tree. Generally four white eggs are laid, incubated by both parents. Chicks fed by both parents. Nest is often parasitized by Brown-headed Cowbird.
DISTRIBUTION: Breeds in most of the USA and south central Canada and most of Canadian western regions. Winters in Mexico and Central America.

ON PEI: Does not breed on Prince Edward Island, sightings occasional in spring and summer.
CONSERVATION: Population widespread and numbering in the 50 million range, not at risk.
